October 22, 2026
For anyone near Pemberton Heights this fall, the park is easier to plan than the walk to it. Pease Park Conservancy has events posted into mid-December, with exact start and end times and a volunteer shift almost every weekday morning. The Shoal Creek Trail through the park works differently. Its key repair has a month, not a date, and the city and the conservancy that tracks the trail both call that month an estimate.
That gap shapes the rest of 2026 at the creek. November is the month when the trail repair is estimated to finish, and it is also the month of the conservancy's biggest event.
The conservancy describes its calendar as free events, and it runs from dawn birding walks to evening sound baths. These are the public programs still ahead as of this week, from the Pease Park Conservancy events page:

The conservancy also lists a November Sunday Social and a Puppet Show with Small Wonders in both November and December. Check the dates for those two on the calendar before you go.
The volunteer calendar is busier still, and almost all of it is at Kingsbury Commons. The conservancy's volunteer page gives every weekday morning a theme.
That list explains the rest of the fall. A nonprofit that books a work crew for every weekday morning is planning around the park it has right now, without waiting on the trail.
The trail tells a different story. Since April 27, 2026, the Shoal Creek Trail has been closed between Shoal Creek Boulevard and the Janet Fish Bridge while Austin Parks and Recreation resurfaces it and restores accessibility. Shoal Creek Conservancy's trail closures page calls it a "popular stretch of trail in Pease Park." The detour uses the sidewalk on the west side of N. Lamar Boulevard between Shoal Creek Boulevard and 29th Street.
The reopening has already slipped once. The city first expected to finish in late June. The conservancy says permitting delays and crew availability pushed the work past that, and its current timeframe reads "April 27, 2026 – November 2026 (estimated)." The city's Closed Parks and Buildings page, last updated September 9, also lists the closure as running to November 2026.
Both sources agree on the month, and neither gives a day. Every Pease Park event this fall has a start time, and the trail into the park has a season.
One stretch did reach its finish line. The city's Shoal Creek Trail project splits the 24th-to-34th Street corridor into three gaps. The South Gap runs from West 24th Street to 2800 Shoal Creek Boulevard, the Middle Gap from West 29th to 31st, and the North Gap from West 31st to 34th. According to the City of Austin's project story, the Middle Gap was finished in July 2026. It now has a 12-foot shared-use path and a separate 10-foot terracotta bike path.
So the corridor is now in three different states. The Middle Gap is new and complete. The repair segment through Pease Park is closed, with an estimated reopening this month or next. The South Gap at the landslide site has no date at all. When the repair segment reopens, the change will show first at the park itself. The detour farther south will stay in place.
The South Gap is the oldest problem on the trail. Landslides in May 2018 and May 2019 damaged public and private property, and the debris still blocks the creek and trail around 26th and 27th Streets, Shoal Creek Conservancy says. Walkers there use the paved sidewalk east of the creek along N. Lamar.
The city lists the 24th-to-29th Street section as "Closed Indefinitely" and last updated that entry on June 11, 2026. Parks and Recreation is working with Public Works and Transportation and Public Works on the detour route east of the creek. The conservancy says the South Gap went through public review in 2024 and is now in design. Neither source gives a construction start or a completion date.
The north end has its own long timeline. In August 2026, the city started building the FM 2222 underpass at Shoal Creek Boulevard. It will connect the trail to the on-street bikeways along Shoal Creek Boulevard and the existing parkland nature trail. Work is expected to last through summer 2027, with intermittent trail detours and vehicle lane closures along the way.
Taken together, a November reopening in Pease Park closes one gap. The other two run on calendars measured in seasons and years.
That puts extra weight on the conservancy's biggest night of the year. Luminarium: Phases takes place Friday, November 6, at Kingsbury Commons. Individual tickets are on sale through the conservancy's Luminarium page. The conservancy says this year's event "celebrates the phases of change-- in life, in nature, and in the park we all love," and calls it a night to "celebrate what's next for Pease Park."
This year's theme is "Celestial Whimsy, with a Western Flair," and the conservancy invites guests to "dust off your cowboy boots." Pecos Jane Vintage, a woman-owned vintage shop in East Austin, is the official style sponsor. It will give the conservancy 10 percent of proceeds when shoppers mention Luminarium before November 6. Raffle prizes include a facial treatment, Austin FC tickets and free camps for kids. Only Central Texas residents can buy raffle tickets, and winners don't need to attend to win.
The volunteer calendar shows the work behind the evening. The day before, November 5, has a Luminarium Decor Prep shift from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. On November 6 itself there are five shifts: Event Prep starting at 9:00 AM, three set-up blocks through 5:30 PM, and a closing crew from 9:00 to 10:00 PM.
The theme fits a year when Kingsbury Commons lost one of its best-known pieces. Malin's Fountain, Thomas Dambo's sculpture, was destroyed early on May 21, 2026. In its May 23 statement, the conservancy said next steps had not been decided. The Austin Free Press reported that a memorial was held June 24. It also reported that the conservancy was talking with its insurer and the artist about bringing something else to the site.
There has been no public announcement since about what will go there or when. Kingsbury Commons is still the busiest address on the conservancy's calendar. The fountain's spot is the one part of that space with nothing scheduled.
For a closer look at how the closures and the fire rerouted the neighborhood's walks this summer, read our earlier post on why the Pemberton Heights walking loop bends north. Our Pemberton Heights neighborhood page covers the streets around the park. When the trail between Shoal Creek Boulevard and the Janet Fish Bridge reopens, the N. Lamar detour north of the landslide site will no longer be needed.
Pease Park is part of what makes Pemberton Heights feel like home, and it is part of what buyers notice on a first walk-through. If you're thinking about how your house fits into that picture this season, Kim Fodor would be glad to talk it through over coffee, or to prepare a home value estimate whenever you're ready.
